CV Guidance Notes for Fellow Applicants

What to include in your Curriculum Vitae

The detailed CV is an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding, range of skills and experience on the basis of a whole career description. The CV should include colleges and universities attended, qualifications gained as well as a whole career description. This should include any periods not in employment or employed in none or semi-related fields.

The CV is used during the application assessment to examine the applicant’s experience against the Fellow attributes.

When reviewing your application, the Assessment Committee will look for you to demonstrate, within your CV and/or supporting information, that you have senior responsibilities and have held such responsibilities for a minimum of five years. These responsibilities can vary by sector and can include line management duties, budgetary responsibilities, technical specialism and strategic influence within organisations.

To enable the Committee to understand the level of your role and your responsibilities it is important to have a well-organised CV that includes accurate dates and titles for roles, clear descriptions of the level of responsibility of each role, and some context explaining how the role fits within an organisation.

The Committee will also expect to see specific information referring to projects worked on or led and the impacts these have had within the organisation.

The applicant should include information on what contribution he/she has made to the industry.  For example: do they sit on any industry trade federation or sector association boards, national committees or standards panels, and outline how their direct participation or project work demonstrates what they have contributed or put back into the industry.  This can be explained in greater detail on the required application form.

Referees

Your two referee nominations must be Fellows of The Institute of Roofing.

Referees should be able to comment on your work, particularly over the last five years, and we would recommend that your chosen referees are aware that they will receive a request for information on your level of responsibility, experience and overall suitability for FIoR. All referees should be contacted by applicants prior to their nomination.
