Join the Institute of Roofing
We are a proactive organisation with a genuine desire to drive,
increase and maintain professionalism in supervision, management
and ownership within the roofing industry; raising awareness and
promoting roofing as a truly specialised sector of industry.
Please note that membership of the Institute of Roofing is on a personal basis (not company). All correspondence and communication is with the individual at their listed personal contact addresses (i.e. not your office). To ensure that all correspondence reaches members we rely on you to ensure the information we hold on you is accurate and up to date.
The Institute of Roofing is the only body in the UK which awards professional qualifications in roofing management and was established in 1980 to answer the question “What’s next?” for me in my professional career in roofing.
At that time, most of the Founding Members were involved directly in the trade of installing various types of roofs. In those days, trade training in roofing was widely available but to qualify in management, a roofer had to go elsewhere and to a more general management qualification. The Founders addressed the problem by developing a clear structure of membership with qualification criteria and awarded an industry recognised professional qualification for those who meet the required standards.
Today, the Institute (IOR) is a diverse, fully inclusive organisation encompassing the whole roofing industry, whether you’re working in manufacturing, distribution, contracting, training or roofing industry support services.
By encouraging members to improve their knowledge the IOR provides enhanced career path opportunities through personal development.
A partnership of industry and stakeholders working together to develop qualifications and guidance for a structured, recognised and certified career path, that ultimately delivers professional status as an Associate or higher-level status of the Institute of Roofing.
