IoR Associate Course – Building Confidence

Graeme Middleton is business development director at Cemplas and has been working in the roofing industry for eight years. He is responsible for identifying roofing tender opportunities for the company which is a specialist structure refurbishment contractor.

“I work closely with technical sales teams representing various roofing system manufacturers, but felt like I needed a more in-depth understanding of the industry,” Graeme explains. “The Associate Course covered several key areas which I was keen to learn more about including safety, the law, contracts, roofing system types, procurement, and surveying.”

He continues, “Given the drive to reduce carbon across the construction sector, the sustainability module was very thought provoking and we all enjoyed writing presentations on this subject.”

Reflecting on what he has gained from the training, Graeme adds; “Since passing the course, I can speak to clients with more confidence and knowledge about the sector and the different roofing types.

“I now go and look at potential roofing jobs with a completely different set of eyes and I am better placed to assist my estimating colleagues when doing roof surveys with them.”
